This church is traditionally considered to be the oldest in Venice (5th Century).
It was rebuilt several times; its present appearance dates from the 11th century when it was rebuilt, but the facade with the clock and the belltower were added in the 14th century.
It was reproduced on a famous canvas by Canaletto.
