The church Santa Maria Formosa was, following the tradition. one of the fist eight churches that were built in the lagoon. It was established by the Saint bishop Magno, who saw the Virgin ("Formosa"), and was asked to build a temple where he would see a white cloud. It is the first church in Venice entirely built following the Renaissance Ideals in the second part of the 15th century. During the 18th century Baldassarre Galuppi (1706-85) called "Il Buranello" was organ player in the church Santa Maria Formosa; then he served as vice-maestro (1748-62) and maestro di cappella (1762-85) at San Marco. He was Vivaldi's most cosmopolitan successor and he composed concertos, sinfonias, overtures and keyboard sonatas.
